Medicare Premiums & Deductibles for 2011
Part A Hospital Insurance
Premiums:
- For less than 30 quarters contributed to Social Security, the 2011 Part A monthly premium is $450.00
- For 30-39 quarters contributed to Social Security, the 2011 Part A monthly premium is $248.00
- For 40 or more quarters contributed to Social Security, there is no Part A monthly premium
Deductible:
- The 2011 Part A hospital deductible is $1132.00 per benefit period or spell of illness
Hospital Co-insurance:
- For hospitalization days 61-90, there is a $283.00 per day Part A co-payment in 2011
- For hospitalization days 91-150, there is a $566.00 per day Part A co-payment in 2011
Skilled Nursing Co-insurance:
- For Skilled Nursing days 21-100, there is a $141.50 per day Part A co-payment in 2011
Part B Medical Insurance
Premiums:
- For an individual tax return less than or equal to $85,000, or a joint tax return less than or equal to $170,000, the 2011 Medicare Part B premium for existing beneficieanies is the same as what was paid in 2010, $115.40 for new beneficiaries
- For an individual tax return greater than $85,000 and less than or equal to $107,000, or a joint tax return greater than $170,000 and less than or equal to $214,000, the 2011 Medicare Part B premium is $161.50
- For an individual tax return greater than $107,000 and less than or equal to $160,000, or a joint tax return greater than $214,000 and less than or equal to $320,000, the 2011 Medicare Part B premium is $230.70
- For an individual tax return greater than $160,000 and less than or equal to $214,000, or a joint tax return greater than $320,000 and less than or equal to $428,000, the 2011 Medicare Part B premium is $299.90
- For an individual tax return greater than $214,000, or a joint tax return greater than $428,000, the 2011 Medicare Part B premium is $369.10
Deductible:
- The 2011 Part B deductible is $162.00
Co-insurance:
- The 2010 Part B co-insurance is equal to 20 percent of the Medicare-approved cost of service
Part D Stand-Alone Prescription Drug Plans
Premiums:
Each stand-alone prescription drug plan has a monthly premium. Depending on an individual's income, a monthly adjustment amount will be added as follows:
- For an individual tax return less than or equal to $85,000, or a joint tax return less than or equal to $170,000, there is no Medicare Part D additional monthly adjustment.
- For an individual tax return greater than $85,000 and less than or equal to $107,000, or a joint tax return greater than $170,000 and less than or equal to $214,000, the 2011 Medicare Part D additional monthly adjustment is $12.00.
- For an individual tax return greater than $107,000 and less than or equal to $160,000, or a joint tax return greater than $214,000 and less than or equal to $320,000, the 2011 Medicare Part D additional monthly adjustment is $31.10.
- For an individual tax return greater than $160,000 and less than or equal to $214,000, or a joint tax return greater than $320,000 and less than or equal to $428,000, the 2011 Medicare Part D additional monthly adjustment is $50.10.
- For an individual tax return greater than $214,000, or a joint tax return greater than $428,000, the 2011 Medicare Part D additional monthly adjustment is $69.10.
