About This Site
The site was made possible through funding from the National Association of Area Agencies on Aging (n4a), the Administration on Aging (AoA), and Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).
I am grateful the County of Ventura Area Agency on Aging, Health Insurance Counseling & Advocacy Program (HICAP) was selected to receive one of ten pilot project grants.
When my director brought the proposal to me, I thought to myself: "Well, volunteer recruitment is good, but we sure need a website."
Then I thought: "How do we bring the 40 through 64 year old age group together with the 65 and up age group?"
Somehow I pictured a website based on the Burma Shave ads on the old Route 66 highway. With this vision, I submitted the proposal. I never dreamed that Ventura HICAP would be one of the grant recipients. We received the grant, and the work began.
This website has been a vision and labor of love.
Our agency gives many thanks to the HICAP volunteers and staff who dedicated so much time and energy to designing, writing, and editing all the pages.
Thank you to the Ventura Adult and Continuing Education Technology Department for providing the name of a former student to be our web developer. Thank you, too, to the teacher and students from the Technology Department who did an excellent job creating the graphics for the front page illustration.
A huge thank you to Mary Kaschak and Abigail Morgan at n4a. You both have been patient, understanding, and always there to help with any problem or question.
I would also like to acknowledge and thank the grant committee for making this website possible. We are very grateful for the opportunity to allow other State Health Insurance Programs (SHIPs) to use this website template to better reach out to seniors, baby boomers, people with disabilities, caregivers, and anyone wanting to learn more about Medicare and Long Term Care.
A very heartfelt thank you to all who have volunteered and worked on this website from the County of Ventura Area Agency on Aging!
